ROALD AMUNDSEN cruise vessel 2019

Built as a cruise vessel under yard No 400. Her hill was built by the Montex Shipyard in Gdansk, Poland where after she was towed to the Kleven Shipyard, Ulsteinvi, Norway for outfitting and completion.
30 June 2016 ordered.
01 March 2017 laid down.
17 February 2018 launched as the ROALD AMUNDSEN, one sister the FRIDTJOF NANSEN.
Tonnage 21,765 grt, 7,545 net, 1,800 dwt, dim. 140.0 x 23.60 x 5.30m.
Powered by four Bergen B33 45L6 diesel engines, 14,400 kW, speed 15 knots.
Passenger accommodation for 530, berths for 265 persons.
25 June 2019 delivered to Explorer II AS, Tromsø, Norway. Managed by Hurtigruten Cruise AS. Imo No 9813072.

03 July 2019 first cruise from Tromsø to Hamburg.

MS ROALD AMUNDSEN is a new hybrid-powered Hurtigruten (Norwegian Coastal Express) expedition cruise ship. She has been built by Kleven Yards of Norway and started her maiden voyage on July 3rd, 2019 from the Norwegian port Tromsø to Hamburg. She and her sistership FRIDTJOF NANSEN are the first hybrid-powered ships in the Hurtigruten fleet. On the evening of Sept. 10, 2019, the MS ROALD AMUNDSEN arrived Nome, Alaska, captained by Kai Albrigtsen, and the operator announced the first complete passage of the more than 3,000 nautical miles passage from the Atlantic to the Pacific, by hybrid propulsion.

MS ROALD AMUNDSEN will be christened in fall 2019 in Antarctica with a chunk of ice instead of the traditional bottle of champagne.
In late February 2018, Hurtigruten announced that the company wouldn't take delivery of ROALD AMUNDSEN until 2019 because of problems at the shipyard.

In 2019, the ship will offer expedition sailings along Norway’s coast. Besides, MS ROALD AMUNDSEN will become the first hybrid ship to sail the Northwest Passage.
