IVAN AIVAZOVSKY STORM AT CAPE AYA

Post by aukepalmhof » Fri Jan 24, 2020 7:00 pm

The stamp shows us a detail from the painting made by Ivan Aivazovsky in 1875 “Storm at Cape Aya” The painting is now in the Russian Museum in St Petersburg.

Cape Aya is in the south of the Crimea not far from the city of Balaclava.
A large sailing vessel (not a name is given) is drifting to the coast or is already stranded on the rocks during stormy weather, while in the foreground a lifeboat from the ship tried to land on the beach;
