SHORE LANDSCAPE WITH MOORED BOATS AND A CROWDED BARGE

Post by aukepalmhof » Sat Jan 25, 2020 3:38 am

The stamps show us a detail of a painting, painted by the Belgian artist Egide Linnig in 1848. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egide_Linnig “Shore landscape with moored sailing vessels and a crowded barge”, the painting shows us several sailing vessels in the left background, underway or at anchor in calm weather.
Small farmhouses on the right and a bridge path under an oak tree. In the center of the picture, there are fishing boats under sail, in front of them a barge occupied by several people, in the center a man in armor with a helmet and sword.
On the stamp, only the barge is shown with many people on board. Most probably it is a wooden-hulled speeljacht (pleasure yacht), she is rowed by two men in the bow, but has leeboards, which tell us that she also could be sailed.
