VIKING LONGSHIP ON IIS WAY TO ICELAND.

Austria issued in 1926 a set of stamps on the Nubelungen sage, of which the 8g show us, Gunther in the dragon ship viewtopic.php?f=2&t=11219&p=11927&hilit=longships+dragon#p11927 on his way to the fictional city Isenstein in Iceland (Nibelung legend)

The stamp design is very dark but it shows a Viking longship, which was called dragon ships (drakuskippan) by the Franks because they had a dragon-shaped prow

Gunther: ... Burgundian king. The heroic poet took up his defeat in 463 through an army of the Huns, in which Gunther himself, the entire royal family and a large part of his people had died. This defeat brought them into connection with a family feud (Nibelungenlied) and made Gunther the opponent of Attilas. Compared to the story and portrayal of Edda, Gunther's form has been negatively changed in the Walthari song and the Nibelungenlied. In the Nordic heroic saga, he does not find his heroic end in battle, but as Attila's prisoner in the snake pit.

Much more on this legend is given on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nibelungenlied
