FISHING PIROGUES in Grenada

Post by aukepalmhof » Mon Feb 03, 2020 7:45 pm

The lightfast Trinidad and Grenada pirogues show more European influence than these of the islands to the north. The dugout portion consists of the keel and garboard in one piece, in which 3-4 planks are added to each side, lapstreak fashion. Straight, sloping stem; transom stern, marked sheer forward, flaring sides.

Fishing pirogues have a live well amidships. Most rowed double-banked with a 3rd man trolling. When sailed sets a triangular sail; now inboard or outboard engines common.
Reported length 4.6 – 7.3m; e.g. length 7m, beam 1.9m, depth amidships 0.7m.
