Maritime Commission (KM) - the first Polish admiralty, created in 1568 by King Sigismund II Augustus ; operated in Gdańsk under the direction of Jan Kostka.
The commission was established on the initiative of Sigismund II August on 24 March 1568. It was headed by eminent experts on maritime affairs: the castellan of Gdańsk Jan Kostka and the Oliwa abbot Kacper Geschkau . The Maritime Commission (from 1572 was headed by bishop Stanisław Karnkowski ) accounted for the captains of privateer vessels from their activities, watched over disciplines among the crews, and gave them instructions regarding further actions. In addition, she was responsible for overseeing the further expansion of the Polish fleet. For these purposes, they had a huge fund at her disposal.

The activity of the Maritime Commission ceased with the death of Sigismund II August (1572); its continuation was the Royal Ship Commission established in 1626
