Pinisi Ship(Kapal Pinici), Legend of Indonesian Maritime Glory is a typical ship from Indonesia made by the Bugis and Makassar tribes in South Sulawesi. Exactly in the village of Bira, Bonto Bahari, Bulukumba.
Pinisi ship is a typical ship from Indonesia made by the Bugis and Makasar tribes in South Sulawesi. Precisely in the Village of Bira, District of Bonto Bahari, Bulukumba Regency. A special characteristic that distinguishes a Pinisi ship from another ship is the presence of two main sail masts, and seven sails around it.
Based on the legend of the Sulawesi community, pinisi ships were originally made from shipwrecks that sank because of the waves. The story begins when Prince Suwerigading from the Kingdom of Luwu sails to China to propose to a daughter named We Cudai. However, on the way home his ship was sunk by the waves and broke into three parts. Each ship fragment was stranded in three different villages, namely Desa Ara, Lemo-lemo, and Tanjung Bira. Residents in each village worked together to rebuild it, and after it was given the name Pinisi.
Pinisi was originally the name of a ship captain who had sailed across the waters of Bira who also taught the people there to design sails that are suitable for sailing across the seas. Because of his services, the screen that has been made is named Pinisi by the people of Bira.In making the ship Pinisi will pass some special rituals that must be endured. Starting from the search for trees, felling trees, laying down, until the first voyage of the ship.
Every part of Pinisi ship has high philosophical meaning. The two main masts of the ship pinisi refer to the two creed. While the seven pillars around it mean the number of verses from the Surah Al-Fatihah. In another version, the seven pillars surrounding this main pillar mean that the ancestors of the Bugis and Makasar tribes once sailed seven oceans in the world.
The whole Pinisi ship is made using hands without the help of a machine at all. Starting from cutting down trees, cutting wood, and installing keel all done by hand. To glue two sticks together, don't use glue, but manually with a peg.
Pinisi ships with their splendor are legendary in Indonesia. Expeditions by pinisi have been recorded several times. In the era of the 17th century Srivijaya Kingdom, the pinisi ship expedition successfully sailed the ocean to the island of Madagascar in Africa. In 1986 the pinisi ship expedition made it to Vancouver, Canada. A year later, in 1987 successfully headed for Australia. The last pinisi ship expedition was successfully anchored in Japan.
In the era of globalization, phinisi as a cargo ship has changed its function to become a luxury commercial cruise ship or expedition funded by local and foreign investors, with luxurious interiors and equipped with diving equipment, water games for marine tourism and a trained and reinforced crew with modern techniques. One example of the latest luxury yachts is Silolona sailing under a motorbike. See also viewtopic.php?f=2&t=10451.
