Built as a passenger ship under yard No 1233 by William Denny & Bross, Dumbarton for the Southern Railway, Southampton.
31 January 1929 ordered.
20 April 1929 laid down
23 October 1929 launched as the ISLE OF JERSEY, two sisters.
Tonnage 2143 grt, 864 net, 464 dwt, dim. 93.27 x 12.83 x 4.24m.
Powered by 4 Parsons turbines, 540 nhp, geared to two shafts, speed 19.5 knots.
Accommodation for 1400 passengers.
19 January 1931 delivered to owners.

From their launch in 1929 until they left service on island routes in 1959 and 1961 respectively, ISLE OF JERSEY and ISLE OF GUERNSEY were two of the most popular vessels ever to operate between England and the Channel Islands.
Built by Denny Brothers for Southern Railways in 1930, the sister ships were of 3,143 tons, twin-screw steam turbines, 306 feet long and 42 feet beam, with a speed of 19 knots.

ISLE OF JERSEY
ISLE OF JERSEY was the first of the Isle Class ships. She first came to Jersey on 13 March 1931. During the war she served as a Naval Hospital ship as the HOSPITAL CARRIER NO 3, based in Scapa Flow. During the Normandy landings made she eleven crossings to the invasion beaches, where after she returned to Scapa Flow. 02 October 1945 handed back to owners, resuming the Southampton-Channel Islands service after the war. She made her final voyage from Jersey on 31 October 1959 and was sold in 1960, renamed LIBDA and commenced running between Benghazi and Tripoli with pilgrims under an Indian captain.

1948 Transferred to British Transport Commission, Southampton.
1960 Sold to Mohammed Senussi Giaber in Tripoli and renamed LIBDA.
09 May 1963 arrived by the breakers in La Spezia, Italy where she was scrapped by Cant. Tomaso Di Savoia.
