SMX-25 submarine

Post by aukepalmhof » Fri Apr 17, 2020 11:16 pm

The 2010 French SMX-25 was a submarine design concept by defence company, DCNS, with surface ship characteristics, which would allow high surface speed for more rapid deployment to the combat zone and then submerging to attack.

SMX-25 (the informal name of a diving frigate) is a 21st-century gun-ship being developed by the French ship building company, DCNS. It is a hybrid between a surface ship and a submarine.

It is 110 metres long and displaces 3000 tons. The submerged body is an elongated knife-like form, optimized for high speed when moving on the surface. Its main feature is the ability to quickly travel to distant places and then strike from under water. SMX-25 is to be armed with 16 multi-function missiles, capable of striking submarine and surface targets with four torpedo tubes. The ship, which looks like a spindle with a massive superstructure, will be automated. One version ship will implement stealth technology to enable it carry out reconnaissance and insert sabotage groups of up to 10 people.

If she has left even the drawing boards I am not sure, can’t find even if she was built.
