The 4.50 Euro stamp shows the Österreichischer Lloyd vessel ARCIDUCA LODOVICO.
She was built as a paddle steamer on the Thames River in London by Hawks? In 1837 for the Österreichischer Lloyd in Trieste.
10 December 1836 launched as the ARCIDUCA LODOVICO.
Tonnage 310 ton, length 41.7m.
Powered by a 100 hp steam engine.
She was the first steamship of the Österreichischer Lloyd. Arrived in Trieste on 12 Aril 1837
15 May 1837 she sailed from Trieste with on board 53 passengers and 25 crew bound for the Levant.
She made calls at Ancona, Italy, Corfu, Patras, Athens. Syros and Smyrna before she arrived in Constantinople on 30 May. It is a two monthly service with mail, cargo and passengers.
The ARCIDUCA LODOVICO was in service for the company till 1869.
