ALBERT SCHWEITZER and OUARO CANOE

Post by aukepalmhof » Sat Jul 25, 2020 9:43 am

A few countries issued a stamp to honour Dr. Albert Schweitzer the founder of a hospital in Lambaréné, in Africa.

The hospital is built on the banks of the Ogooue River in Gabon, on the stamps you can see dugout canoes, “ouaro” a generic term used in Gabon for a canoe.
It are long narrow dugout canoes with 2 or 3 thwarts, on the river paddled by a sharp- bladed paddle, some poled or sailed.
Length up to 5 metre.
