Vietnam fishing boat “tuyyen lu’o’I” (also given as tuyen dang or tuyen luoi) depict on this stamp is a family boat of the Gulf of Tonkin. Wrongly given on the stamp as a Ha Long net boat.
The stamp is designed after a drawing in the book Sailboats of Indochina.
Carvel planked of a local hardwood , flat bottom with rocker at ends; hard bilges; flattened stem, straight and raked at gunwale strake and curved below; wide raked transom,. Gunwale turns up sharply at transom to form wings; hull black. Rectangular rudder attached to a high post; live fish-well. Most of hull generally covered by rounded roof of bamboo matting serving as living quarters for the extended family and livestock.
Rowed and sailed. Steps 1-2 masts, depending on size; small foremast stepped in the eyes, raked forward. Sets Chinese balanced lugsails of russet-colored cloth, battened.
Reported lengths 5.8 – 8m.
