SIR LAURENCE OLIVIER and watercraft

Post by aukepalmhof » Sun Oct 04, 2020 8:26 pm

Sierra Leone issued in 1990 a set of 10 stamps for the artist Sir Laurence Olivier (1907 – 1989).

Three of these stamps show medieval watercraft, which I believe not much have to do with the movie or play.

9Le stamp shows us, Sir Laurence Olivier, as King Henry V with a “hulk” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_V_(1944_film). King Henry his flagship was the warship TRINITE ROIALE but this type of ship is not depict.

16Le stamp https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oedipus_Rex The watercraft depict is a “Viking Longship”.

70Le stamp shows him as Othello https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Othello with a “gondola”, the only watercraft which fits in with the play.

Sierra Leone 1990 sg 1185/86 and 1189, scott 1185/86 and 1189.
