SADURIA research vessel

Post by aukepalmhof » Tue Oct 13, 2020 6:43 pm

On a set of five stamps issued by Finland in 2002, Mr. Dan Rodlie the editor of Watercraft Philately has identified the small watercraft on the stamp as the SADURIA, the sailing yacht on another stamp from the set is till so far not identified.

SADURIA was built in 1987 by the Waterman Oy, Turku Boatyard, Finland (the yard does not exist anymore) for the Tvärminne Zoological Station, University of Helsinki.
Built after the (new) hull design of the Finnish Navy mine sweeper KIISKI.

Launched as the SADURIA, named after the isopode (crustacea) Saduria entomon that lives in the Baltic, the saduria appears in the logo of the research station.
Tonnage: According to International Tonnage Certificate: Gross tonnage 23, net tonnage 7 ton. Dimensions: According to International Tonnage Certificate: 12,65 m - 3,98 m, full length 14,7 m, full breadth 4,1 m; depth 1,7 m.
Powered by 2 x 170 kW Valmet diesels. Originally it had Hamilton Jets 291, but they were soon changed to conventional propellers because the jets were too weak to be used in ice.
Port of registry: Tvärminne/Hanko, Finland.

When not used as a research vessel in the summer months used as a passenger boat in the archipelago it can take max. 35 persons.

14 November 2019 she was taken out of service after more as 30 years. She is for sale but I can’t find if she is already sold.
