The Glory class is a series of 8 container ships currently operated by COSCO SHIPPING Lines and built by Hyundai Heavy Industries in South Korea. The ships have a maximum theoretical capacity of 13,114 TEU.
The ships were ordered in 2007 by Seaspan Corporation for a 12-year charter to COSCO Container Lines. The first ship was delivered in 2011.
The double-hulled ships were among the largest container ships in the world when they were built. Their Neopanamax dimensions will allow them to pass through the Panama Canal once it has been expanded. A number of innovations and details are conspicuous in terms of shipbuilding, especially in terms of environmental protection in shipping . In contrast to the majority of conventional container ships, the deckhouse is arranged far forward, which enables an improved line of sight and thus higher forward deck loading. Below the superstructure, among other things, the bunker tanks are arranged to contain the latest MARPOL-Fulfill regulations. The powerful drive system with the two-stroke diesel main engine positioned as far aft as possible is also outstanding. In the bow, there are two transverse thrusters with an output of 1800 kW each. The holds of the ships are closed with pontoon hatch covers. Depending on the variant, the ships have a slightly different container capacity of around 13,100 TEU, with an average container weight of fourteen tons, the capacity drops to around 9,000 TEU. There are also 800 to 1000 connections for integral refrigerated containers.
