History
The type ship CSCL STAR was launched on January 15, 2011, as the first unit of a series of eight identical ships, and the CSCL NEPTUNE, which was delivered on May 22, 2012, formed the end. The client was the Chinese shipping company CSCL. The ships were built at the Samsung Heavy Industries shipyard in Geoje, South Korea. The ships are used on the China Shipping AEX 7 container service between the Far East and Europe. The CSCL STAR was at her first call the largest container ship handled in Hamburg.
Since the merger of the China Shipping Group with COSCO to form the China COSCO Shipping Corporation in 2016, the ships have been operating for the China COSCO Shipping Corporation.

The double-hulled ships have the deckhouse, unlike the majority of conventional container ships, placed far forward, which enables an improved line of sight and thus higher forward deck loading. The main propulsion of the ships is provided by a turbocharged two-stroke crosshead engine of the type MAN B&W 12K98MC-C7 with twelve cylinders and an output of 72,240 kW, which was built under license by the Korean manufacturer Doosan. The bore of the motor is 98 cm, the stroke 240 cm. Two diesel generators with 3500 kVA each are used to generate electricity and two diesel generators with 4750 kVA each and one harbor/emergency generator with 375 kVA.

The holds of the ships of the CSCL-Star type are closed with pontoon hatch covers. The ships have a capacity of 13,300 TEU’s, but the shipping company gives a maximum capacity of 14,074. Transporting up to 10,500 TEU’s is possible with a homogeneous load with 14-tonne 20-foot containers. 800 refrigerated containers can be connected. The docking and casting off maneuvers are supported by two bow thrusters.
