The U.S.A. Postal service issued on 29 June 1984 a postal card to honor Frederic Baraga (1797-1868) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederic_Baraga

This card is designed by David Blossom, depicts Baraga and an Indian in a birch bark canoe viewtopic.php?f=2&t=14540&p=16528&hilit=birch+bark+canoe#p16528
Baraga was a Roman Catholic priest from Slovenia who settled in the Lower Michigan Peninsula in 1831 and spent over 37 years educating the Indians.
Most white settlers feared the Indians, he promoted peace and harmony with them and erected schools and churches. Baraga became a Bishop in 1853 and died in 1868.
