PUNTS AT BRITISH GUIANA

Post by aukepalmhof » Mon Apr 12, 2021 7:36 pm

British Guiana now called Guiana issued three stamps which show us the transport of sugar cane to the factory. The ships depicted are called “punt”.

It is a simply constructed craft, with flat bottom athwartships and rockered at the ends, longitudinally planked. Square ends, generally raked to permit nosing onto river banks.
Low, straight flared sides, either parallel or curved, flat or slight sheer.
Mostly poled, some are sailed, fitted out with an outboard motor, or towed by a small tug.
Reported lengths 3.7 till 6.1m.
