Outrigger canoe: In addition to the East African coast, occasionally also used on Mauritius, the outrigger canoe can be found in the British areas in the Indian Ocean on Chagos, where it is still used for fishing. As you can see on the stamp, the canoes have been modernized. The boom is fastened with bolts and no longer with locally manufactured ropes, as is common in the Pacific. The canoes are usually built by their owners and can carry one or two adults. Small single-seaters are sometimes built by boys who need them for fishing and sailing in the immediate vicinity of the shore.
