300th Anniversary of regalement for Maritime Pilots.

West Germany issued in 1979 one stamp for the 300th Anniversary of the Regalement for Maritime Pilots.
The stamp shows an old vessel, only the steering wheel is visible with behind the wheel a helmsman and on the right of him the pilot.
Pilotage offshore and in the estuaries is an important activity to the safety of shipping and other traffic; as a leading maritime nation, Germany instituted state pilotage regulations in 1679. In 1919 the German Pilots Federation was formed, and in 1954 the Maritime Pilotage Act was passed.
