“Panco” from the southern Philippines is a fast pirate vessel of the Moros and Malays. Plank built, no keel, sharp ends with a cutaway or tall stem and sternpost; steep rise to the floors. Square poop deck out over the sharp stern. Light bamboo decking; breakwater forward pierced with a cannon. Quarter rudders. Rowed in 2 banks. 13 – 30 oars per side, the upper-tier working from a platform out each side. Wide lugsail set to a tripod mast. Crew to ca. 100.
Reported lengths 15 - 24m, the beam of largest 6m, draught 1 - 1.5m.
