Composite steam paddleboat. 4 guns. Launched 15 April 1882. 620tn. Steam engine. 490hp. Sold at Sierra Leone 1899.

Built as a composite paddle steamer by Westwood Bailey at Poplar for the Royal Navy.
1881 Ordered
14 August 1882 launched under the name HMS ALECTO.
Tonnage 620 tons displacements. Dim. 160 x 26.3 x 7.4ft
Powered by a steam engine of 490 hp., manufactured by J & G Rennie, speed?
Armament 2 guns (other source gives 4 guns). The Sail and Steam Navy List gives 1 – 7 inch MRL gun.
Schooner rigged.

She took part in the Niger River Campaign between 1883-1886.
October 1886 used in a punitive expedition on the upper river of the Niger, and the destroying of Igah, and in Dec. 1886 in the destroying of Patani.
1891 Used on the Gambia River in the operations against Fodeh Cabbah.
April 1892 took part in the destroying of Tambi and Toniatula.
1894 On the Gambia River and took part in the operations against Fodeh Sillah.
Feb. 1897 took part in the Benin expedition.
1889 Took part in an expedition against Sierra Leone.

12 Oct. 1899 sold at Sierra Leone, fate unknown.
