Built as a passenger-cargo vessel by Soc. Provençale de Constructions Navales at La Ciotat for the Messageries Maritimes at Marseilles.
29 October 1922 launched under the name LECONTE DE LISLE a France poet.
Tonnage 9.887 grt, 7.650 dwt., dim. 470 x 61.0 x 37.4ft., draught 26.3ft.
Powered by triple expansion steam engines 596 nhp., speed 13 knots twin screws.
Passenger accommodation for 88 first, 72 second and 72 third class.

She was special built for the Indian Ocean line of Messageries Maritimes, but also used for the liner service to Indochina.

10 April 1942, seized by the Japanese in Saigon, and renamed TEIRITU MARU. Used by the Japanese Government as a transport. (in the URL is given seized in June 1944 and I think it was that date, Indochina was in the beginning of World War II under Vichy Government control, and after France was liberated by the Allies in 1944 I think Indochina was occupied by Japan.)
28 July 1945 she struck a mine laid by the American forces in position 35 32N 135 20E (off Maizuru) and sank.
18 August 1948 refloated by the Japanese and repaired at Maizuru.
December 1950 handed back to Messageries Maritimes and renamed LECONTE DE LISLE.
Used in the liner service between France and the Indian Ocean till 1952.
In 1954 used as troopship to repatriate troops from Indochina.
February 1956 scrapped.

(She is depict on all former French Colonies and issued in 1931.)
