BARALT

Built as a cargo vessel under yard No 108 by Coaster Construction, Montrose, Scotland, for the Koninklijke Nederlandsche Stoomvaart Maatschappij N.V. (KNSM) at Amsterdam
08 June 1921 launched under the name APOLLO.
Before delivery renamed in BARALT by the KNSM, most probably named after the town Baralt in the Caribbean.
Tonnage 780 gross, 323 net, 998 dwt. Dim. 202.9 x 33.3 x 10.5ft.
Powered by a 3-cyl triple expansion steam engine, manufactured by Fleming & Furgerson, Paisley, 600 ihp., one screw speed 9.5 knots.
Accommodation for 6 passengers and 80 deck-passengers.
November 1921 delivered to owners. Homeport Willemstad, Curaçao.

She was used by the KNSM in the service from Curaçao to ports in the Caribbean.
1936 Transferred to the West Indische Scheepvaartmaatschappij.
September 1950 sold to Oliver & Sons, Limassol, renamed MIREILLE OLIVIER.
1954 Sold to the Hellenic Levant Lines, Piraeus, renamed in PANAGHIA.
Tonnage then given as 1001 grt, 560 net, 998 dwt., dim. 212.0 x 33.5 x 13.5ft.
1957 Sold to John Antoniou, Demetrius Gioldasis & Bros.

On a voyage from Piraeus to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, she foundered between Karpathos & Crete on 03 April 1958 during a heavy gale.
