SUMOTO MARU

Stamp is designed by S. Watanabe, and shows a portion of Kobe Harbour in the background, with his painting of the ferry SUMOTO MARU superimposed in the foreground.

Built as a passenger-ferry under yard 236 by Sanoyasu Dock Co., Osako for Kyodo Kisen K.K., Japan.
Launched under the name SUMOTO MARU.
Tonnage 518 grt., dim. 54.47 x 8.60 x 3.50m. (draught).
Powered by one 6-cyl. diesel,1.500hp., speed 15 knots.
Accommodation for 571 passengers.
1965 Completed.

Used in the service of the Kansa Kisen Kaisha between Osako, Kobe and Sumoto.
1980 Sold to Coral Seas Fishing Co. Ltd., British Solomon Islands, renamed IU MUNAU.

2008 as given by http://www.equasis.org still in service for the same owner in the Solomon Islands. IMO No. 6512720.
