Post by shipstamps » Sat Nov 29, 2008 6:46 pm

In 1949 Japan issued a pair of stamps showing the liner Koan Maru about to enter Beppu harbour. It is claimed that this ship was the world's first completely air-conditioned liner. She is a twin-screw, 7,080-ton vessel owned by the Japanese Government Department of Railways and built by Mitsubishi Jukogyo K.K. at Nagasaki in 1936, her dimensions being 418.4ft. x 57.3ft. x 32.8ft.
