Built as a passenger/cargo vessel under yard No. 608gk by Harland & Wolff, Greenock for the Elder Dempster Lines, Liverpool.
25 May 1922 launched under the name ANCOBRA.
Tonnage 7.816 gross, 4.633 net, dim. 132.69 x 1747 x 9.55m.
Two 8-cyl diesel engines, manufactured by the yard, 4.600 bhp., twin screws, speed 14 knots.
Bunker capacity 720 tons oil, daily consumption 20 tons.
Accommodation for 225 first, 74 second and 32 third class, crew 140.
Before delivery renamed in ADDA.
14 November 1922 completed.

29 November 1992 sailed for her maiden voyage from Liverpool to the West coast of Africa.
1923 In collision with the BASSA on the River Mersey, got only hull damage.
23 April 1933 transferred to the Elder Dempster Lines Ltd.

On a voyage from Liverpool to Freetown, Takoradi, Accra and Lagos under command of Capt. J.T. Marshall with on board 613 ton general cargo and 260 passengers in a position of 08.30N 14 30W was she torpedoed by U-107 under command of Capt. Hessler. (Not as given by WP by U-575.)
She sank stern first 82 mile west of Freetown at 04.40 of the 08th June 1941.
Of the crew of 150, four gunners and 260 passengers, 7 crew under which the Commander and 2 passengers drowned.

Twelve crew of the ADDA sailed from Sierra Leone on board of the EMPIRE ABILITY who also was torpedoed on 27 June, and sank. Two of the rescued crew of the ADDA were thereafter missing.
