ALDERNEY HMS (P416) submarine

Built as a submarine under yard No. 908 by Vickers-Armstrong at Barrow-in-Furness for the Royal Navy.
06 February 1945 keel laid down.
25 June 1945 launched under the name HMS ALDERNEY (P 416), one of the A Class, the intention was to built 46 of this type, but due to the end of World War II only 16 have been built.
Displacement 1.365 tons surfaced and 1.060 ton submerged. Dim.85.9 x 6.79 x 5.18m. (draught), length bpp. 76.0m.
Powered by two 8-cyl Vickers Admiralty diesel engines 4.300 shp, speed on surface 19 knots. Two 625hp electro motors, speed 8.5knots. Twin shafts.
Bunker capacity 300 tons.
Radius 10.500 mile by 11 knots.
Armament 1 – 4 inch, 1 – 20mm AA Oerlikon gun, 3MG., six torpedo tubes , six forward, four aft.
Carried 20 torpedoes or 20 mines.
Crew 5 officers and 56 men.
10 December 1945 commissioned.

She was built with the intention to use her in the Pacific against the Japanese forces.
1955 Got a refit.
06 June 1972 Sold for breaking up, and broken up at CairnRyan, Scotland, where she arrived in August 1972, she was broken up by Shipbreaking (Queensborough) Ltd.
