Built as a nuclear ballistic missile submarine under yard No 1110 by Vickers Shipbuilding & Engineering, Barrow-in-Furness for the Royal Navy.

29 September 1993 launched as the HMS VICTORIOUS (S-29) one of the Vanguard class of which four were built.
Displacement15.680 tons surface, 15.900 tons submerged. Dim. 149.9 x 12.8 x 12m. (draught).
Powered by one Rolls-Royce Pressurised Water reactor, two GEC turbines, 27.500 shp, on shaft, speed 25 knots dived.
Armament 4 – 21 inch torpedo tubes capable of firing Spearfish torpedoes. 16 ballistic missile tubes for Trident D5 missiles. She can carry a maximum of 192 nuclear warheads.
Crew 14 officers and 121 ratings.
07 January 1995 commissioned.
She was the second boat of her class.
30 June 2001 a 41ft USA Coast Guard ship escorting the surfaced HMS VICTORIOUS to sea, in position 14 miles off Port Canaveral, the Coast Guard craft was diverted by a report of a possible oil slick.
When the craft circled around the VICTOROUS and passed behind her, her propeller became entangled in the towing array of the submarine which was out 2000 yards, and disabled the Coast Guard craft.
The VICTORIOUS was not damaged.
She became the second of her class for a refit, and in 2008 underwent sea trials, pending resuming patrols in 2009.
