KOPERNIK ORP

Built as a Moma class survey vessel by Stoczna Polocna, Gdansk for the Polish Government.
18 September 1970 launched under the name ORP KOPERNIK (266)
Displacement 1.506 tons full load, dim. 73.32 x 11.2 x 3.77m.
Powered by two Zgoda-Sulzer 6 TD 48 diesel engines, 3.600 bhp., twin shafts.
Crew 41 and accommodation for 40 others.
Managed by the Hydrographic Service of the Polish Navy.
Of the Moma Class 20 were built on Polish yards, mostly for the Russian Navy.

1978 She was used for the second scientific voyage to Spitsbergen.
01 December 1978 till 04 April 1980 took part in the expedition to the Antarctic organized by the Polish Academy of Science.
21 September till 29 September 1992 she paid an official visit to the Swedish Hydrographic Service in Norrkoping.
2006 Decommissioned, and laid up at Gdansk.

The person depict on the stamp is A.B. Dobrowolski (1872-1954) a Polish geophysicist and glaciologist who partipated in the Belgian Antarctic Expedition (1877-1879).
