MOBY DICK

Post by shipstamps » Sun Nov 09, 2008 3:33 pm

In some way a strange looking inland passenger vessel, but maybe it attracts customers. She is designed after the likeness of a whale.
Built on the yard of Büsching & Rosenmeyer at Minden a.d. Weser for the Stern-und Kreisschifahrt der Teltow Kanal A.G., Berlin.
Launched under the name MOBY DICK (there is also a same looking ship on the River Rhine, also under the name MOBY DICK.) Most probably named after the whale Moby Dick in Herman Melville’s book.
Dim. 48.27 x 8.2 x 1.38m. (draught)
Powered by diesel engines 480 hp, twin screws, speed 20 km/h.
Accommodation for 480 passengers.
1973 In service.

She was special built for the lakes and canals in and around Berlin, and it is a very popular hot-pop moonlight dancing ship.
2006 Used in the two times a day sailing between Kladow via the Pfaueninsel to Potsdam.
2008 Still in service for the same company.

West Berlin 1975 70pf. sg B471, scott 9N358.
