KOMARNO tug

Post by shipstamps » Wed Oct 29, 2008 4:17 pm

She is one of project 501 a river tug built on the yard Narodny Podnik Skoda at Komarno, the yard is also given as the Gabor Steiner Shipyard.
The lead ship of this type was the GEORGIY SEDOV, built in 1952; many of this type were built.
The stamp design shows the name KOMARNO but the photo from which the design was taken gives the name of the tug as KHARITON LATJEV. Can not find a tug under that name, but KHARITON LAPTEV has existed, and was built for the Volga Shipping Company in Russia.
I do not believe there was a tug under the name KOMARNO of that type, most probably all this tugs were built on the yard in KOMARNO and that is the reason she is given this name on the stamp.

Dimension: 48.5 x 9.3 x 2.2m. (draught).
Powered by two diesel engines 800 -1100 hp, twin screws, speed 19 km.
Ice strengthened.
Crew 35.
Mostly used for towing log rafts on the rivers of Russia.
On Czechoslovakia 1960 60h sg 1137 scott 962.

Most probably she is scrapped.
