Built as a cargo vessel under yard No 547 by Irvine’s Shipbuilding & Dry-dock Ltd., West Hartlepool for the British Empire Steam Navigation Co. Ltd. (Houlder Bross & Co. Ltd.), Liverpool.
December 1914 launched under the name DERWENT RIVER.
Tonnage 4.724 gross, 2.984 net, 4.368dwt., dim. 385.1 x 52.0 x 27.1ft.
February 1915 delivered to owners.

1933 Sold to Livanons Bros (N.G.Livanos), Chios, Greece and renamed ILISSOS.
1935 Sold to Theofane Maritime Co. Ltd., not renamed.

Damaged on 09 December 1944 by gunfire from the German submarine U-862 south of the Australian town Adelaide.
The ILISSOS fired four shots at the submarine U-862 which was above water at that time. None of the shots was a hit on the U-boat, but she forced the U-boat to discontinue the attack, and she submerged.
The ILISSOS scampered to Adelaide which she reached safely.
Immediately Australian air and sea forces were sent to the action position, but failed to find the submarine.
The U-862 sailed via the east coast of New Zealand and then back to Jakarta where she was stationed.
The ILISSOS was repaired, thereafter again in service.

1946 Sold to John Stefanou Livanas, Chios, not renamed.
03 October 1953 arrived at Moji, Japan for scrapping.
