Italian Dreadnought. Launched 1913. Compl 1916 at Spezia. Machinery by Ansaldo. Refit 1935. Original displ 22000tn later increased to 24000tn. D575’x91’x27’. Compl 957.Original guns thirteen 12in sixteen 6in eighteen 3in TT 18” 2 broadside (submerged) 1 stern (above water). Parsons turbines. 4 screws. Boilers, Yarrow. Designed hp 34000. 22.5knts. Later her guns were replaced with ten 12.6in. Ten 4.7in and eight 3.9in. Carried 4 aircraft, speed increased to 27knts and compl to 1200. TT were cut down to two. They were completely rebuilt and looked entirely different vessels when the ANDREA DORIA and her sister ship CAIO DUILIO were modernised, an unusual and successful rebuilding. Both vessels survived the War.
