Later her guns were replaced with ten 12.6in. Ten 4.7in and eight 3.9in. Carried 4 aircraft, speed increased to 27knts and compl to 1200. TT were cut down to two. They were completely rebuilt and looked entirely different vessels when the ANDREA DORIA and her sister ship CAIO DUILIO were modernised, an unusual and successful rebuilding. Both vessels survived the War.
