Alert (Sloop)

Sailing sloop. 25-30’ long. Local craft of Bermuda, built of Bermuda Cedar, a strong light timber. Single raked mast with triangular loose-footed mainsail (Bermuda Rig). Easily handled by one or two men. Used for fishing, freight carrying and Ploy work.

March 1877 she left from Bermuda for a fishing trip, thereafter not heard more of her till a month later when she was found where she has sunk.
Sunk in 40ft of water with all hands on the North reef at Bermuda.
