Built as 3rd Rate ship-of-the-line by Bernardo Cambi at the Sant Feliu de Guixols shipyard for the Spanish Royal Navy.
When ordered and keel laid down not known.
1719 Launched under the name CATALAN, sometimes given as El CATALAN
Tonnage and dim. not known.
Armament: Carried 66 guns.
13 June 1719 in service.

19 June 1719 delivered to the Spanish Royal navy.
Sailed from San Feliu de Guixols to Cadiz.
December 1719 at Cadiz.

23 February 1720 sailed from Cadiz bound for La Habana (Havana) with the squadron of Admiral Guevara under which the CAMBI and FIDELA. The CATALAN was under command of Don Rodrigo de Torres y Morales who was just promoted to this rank on 6 January 1720.
April 1720 was attacked by two British ships, the battle took 4 hours before she were retreated off La Habana due to the weather.
April she entered La Habana.
January 1721 sailed from La Habana to Cadiz.
23 February 1721 arrived at Cadiz loaded with seven million weights in gold, silver, tobacco and other goods.
31 December 1723 sailed from Cadiz as flagship of Admiral Don. Carlos Grillo, Marques of Grillo to Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, together with ESTRELLA DE MAR, HERMIONE, PINGUE and VOLANTE and 14 merchantmen.
27 February 1724 arrived at Cartagena de Indias.
March 1724 embarked the new Viceroy of Peru, Don José de Armendarin, Marques of de Castelfuerte who had to replace Don Diego Morreillo Rubio de Munoz where after she sailed from Cartagena de Indias to Portobello, Panama with the ESTRELLE DE MAR and PINGUE and VOLANTE.
10 March 1724 in battle with four Dutch privateers smugglers frigates in Tolú cove, capturing one, ADRIANA CATALINA (not a Dutch name) 22 guns, which thereafter was used under the name SANTA CATALINA.
During the battle the squadron was under command of Don Fracisco Javier Cornejo who took over command of the squadron after the dead of Admiral Grillo.

From 1724 in the New World, the later 5 years the British Fleet under Vice Admiral Francis Hosier blockaded Portobello and kept the CATALAN in port.
February 1729 arrived at Cadiz together with the fleet of Manuel Lopez Pintado.

1731 Out of service and broken up at La Carraca, Cadiz.

She is depict on a painting in the Naval Museum in Madrid where she is shown in battle against the British MARY under command of Edward Vernon in a position of 23 N and 29 W in 1724.
