She was built by the English yard Vickers, Sons & Maxim at Barrow-in-Furness for the navy of Peru.
1905 Keel laid down.
27 March 1906, launched under the name ALMIRANTE GRAU.
Tonnage 3.200 ton displacement, dim. 115.85 x 12.34 x 4.30m. (draught).
Powered by two 4 cyl. vertical triple expansion steam engines, 14.000 ihp., speed 24 knots, two shafts. Steam supplied by 10 boilers.
Range 3.700 miles by a speed of 10 knots.
Armament: 2 – 15.2 inch. 8 – 7.6 inch guns, 2 submerged 18 inch torpedo tubes.
Complement 315.

1921 She made her first training cruise for cadets.
1922/23 Rebuilt from coal to oil firing
1934/35 Ten new Yarrow boilers installed.
1936 Two 7.6 inch guns replaced by 2 – 7.6 inch A.A. made in Japan.
1942/44 Superstructure modified and 7 – 0.5 inch Brownings added along with a dept charge thrower on two rails.
When Peru joined WW II in 1944, she was used only for coastal patrol due to her age.
After the war only used for training purposes.
1948 All 7.6 inch guns removed.
1949 Complete modernized.
Before stricken only used as accommodation ship.
24 June 1958 stricken.
