UNYU MARU No 2

Palau issued a ms in 1995, which depict the ships that had been destroyed by USA planes launched from the USA aircraft carriers of the Fifth Fleet under command of Admiral R.A. Spruance on 30/31 March 1944 in Operation Desecrate 1.
The losses were severe for the Japanese; they lost 27 ships and 114 planes during these two days.

UNYU MARU No. 2.

Built as a cargo vessel by Tochigi Shoji Wakamatsu yard for Tochigi Kisen K.K.
Launched under the name UNYU MARU No 2.
Tonnage 635 grt, 294 net, dim. 53.88 (bpp) x 9.14 x 3.90m.
Powered by one 6-cyl oil engine ?hp.
November 1939 completed.

During World War II taken over by the Japanese Navy.
31 March 1944 during the American air raid lost.
She was sometime salvaged Miramar ship index gives.
Rebuilt as a tanker by 1962.
Tonnage 629 grt, 1.254 dwt., dim. 57.3m. length overall.
Renamed in NANZAN MARU not an owner given.
1979 Deleted from Lloyds Register.
