COASTER
The vessel depict on this stamp of the Netherlands is not identified, she is a coaster (kustvaarder) which at that time (1957) where in used by many ship-owners, special from the northern part of the Netherlands for the trade around England and Ireland, Baltic and North European countries.
At that time around a 1000 coaster were in use by Dutch owners, and my seaman career started on one of these small ships as ordinary seaman.
The tonnage of a coaster had to be lower as 500grt, and the officers needed coastal tickets to sail on these vessels.
Crew mostly around 10 men.
The coaster depict looks like a shelterdecker, but why the strange derrick on the foremast, I have seen not many coasters who could load in the fo-c-sle, and when lowered it must been resting on the anchor winch.
On Netherlands 1957 6c + 4c sg 844.
