MESTA

Built as a tanker under yard No 272 by Kasado Dock Co. at Kudamatsu, Japan for the Navigation Maritime Bulgare (NMB).
Launched under the name MESTA, one sister the OSAM.
Tonnage 46.774 gross, 27.806 net, 75.274 dwt., dim. 237.0 x 37.3 x 12.9m.
Powered by a 7-cyl. Ishikawajima/Sulzer diesel engine, 20.300 bhp, one propeller, speed 16.5 knots.
15 Loading tanks.
January 1974 completed.

07 May 2001 at 11.00 a.m. at anchor off Constanta, Rumania waiting to dock for repairs, and while crew members were cleaning a fuel tank an explosion happened, after the explosion the tanker got on fire.
The crew abandoned the vessel except 5 men who stayed behind to extinguish the fire.
Two men were killed in the blast.
The fire was extinguished 08 May, and it was found that she sustained large holing to the side of No 5 tank above the waterline.
Considered after inspection to be beyond economical repair and has been sold to Daglia Maritime, Panama, renamed BEST.
Resold to Turkish breakers and arrived Aliaga, Turkey 05 November 2001 for breaking up.

She is on Bulgaria 1984 13s sg 3126
