VICTORIA CLASS lifeboat

Post by shipstamps » Tue Sep 23, 2008 5:46 pm

The Swedish Post Bulletin 2/2007 gives by these issues.

THE LARGEST VOLUNTARY ORGANIZATION IN SWEDEN.

The Swedish Sea Rescue Society (SSRS), as it is called today, is a voluntary organization. It has 1500 rescue volunteers at 65 sea rescue stations, and has more than 120 boats around Sweden.
The Swedish Sea Rescue Society handles around 70% of all sea rescues. The Society has around 1000 missions a year and rescues approximately 50 boats a year from mortal danger.
Swedish sea rescues are organized by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) in Göteborg. Their main task is to receive alarms, decide on a suitable response and to rescue people in peril on the seas. This also includes transporting sick patients from vessels. The MRCC is manned round the clock and continuously monitors the international emergency frequency.
The three coil stamps in the issues show pictures closely associated with sea rescue past and present.
