Built as a fishing side-trawler by Ferguson Industries Ltd., Pictou N.S., Canada for account of John Penny & Sons Ltd., St John’s Newfoundland, Canada
Launched under the name PENNYFAIR.
Tonnage 287 gross, 102 net, dim. 36.58 x 7.60 x 3.92m., draught 3.20m
Powered by an 8-cyl diesel, manufactured by Stork Werkspoor Diesel B.V., Amsterdam, 650 bhp., speed 10.5 knots.
Bunker capacity 30.5 ton diesel oil.
1967 Delivered to owners.

At the time of her loss was she owned (most probably managed, and still owned by John Penny) by Fishery Products International Ltd. Canada, and registered in St John’s, Newfoundland.
She was based at Riverport, Nova Scotia and used for shell fishing.
She grounded on “Les Veaux Marins (Seal Rocks) off the French island of Grande Miquelon on 12 September 1988.
After she grounded a helicopter, an aircraft from Canada and 11 ships of which two from St Pierre were proceeding to the PENNYFAIR.
Only Captain Franck Strewheidge was killed in the grounding, 14 crew were rescued by a trawler of the Archipelago in the night of 12 and 13 September, another man was saved by the Canadian Coastguard.
In the next days the weather was fine, and there was hope to refloat the vessel by the Company René Alden Mahé, but without luck, in the end of September the PENNYFAIR broke in two and sank.
