Powered diesel electric, by three 3-cyl diesel engines, each 120 hp., manufactured by A.B. Diesels Motorer, Sweden, three screws, speed loaded 7.4 knots.

The propulsion system onboard the VANDALE was heavy, the three diesel engines did have a total weight of 48 tons, while the electrical components weighed 31.2 tons.
After the ice had broken up, she made her maiden voyage in the spring of 1903.
Mostly used for the transport of lamp oil only during the season when the ice had broken up, during the winter laid up.
Only during her maiden voyage she got a serious engine failure, otherwise during her career her engines performing very well.
She was in service till 1913, and shortly thereafter broken up.
