A stamp issued by St Pierre et Miquelon in 2003 with a value of 90 € shows us the Trawler L'AFRIQUE built by Baheux Freres of Boulogne, France in 1912.
Her Yard number was 176. she had a Length 46.6(pp) metres. Beam 7.6metres. Gross tonnage was 502tons. Fitted with one triple expansion steam engine.
She was built as a Trawler for Poret, Lobex and Cie of Boulogne and was delivered in January 1912.
Unfortunately, she did not do well for her owners not making very much money in the short time they had her.
After very few trips she ran aground in dense fog on 20th July 1912 at Langlade Isthmus, Miquelon Island, she was a complete loss.
All her crew were saved.
