Built under yard No. 362 as a passenger ro-ro ferry at Uljanik at Pula, Croatia for Morflot (Caspian Shipping Co.), Russia.
27 October 1984 first section placed.
27 April 1985 launched under the name SOVIETSKAYA ARMENIYA, a sister of the MERCURI I.
Tonnage 11.450 gross, 2.902 dwt., dim. 154.55 x 18.30 x 13.45m., draught 4.2m.
Accommodation for 202 passengers, 84 berths, can carry 70 cars of the Lada type.
31 August 1985 delivered to owners.

1992 Transferred to Azerbaijan State Caspian Shipping Comp., Baku, Azerbaijan, renamed AZERBAIJAN.
http://www.equasis.org gives for 2006, same owner and managed by owners, IMO No. 8212582. Port of Registry Baku, Azerbaijan, call sign 4JDG.

She is also on Azerbaijan 1994 50m sg 184

17 January 2014 laid up.
01 August 2019 renamed by owners in SHAKI.
