1903 .She was built as a wooden sailing smack by John Bowden in Porthleven, South England, for William Lang, Lowestoft, smackowner; she was one of the 4000 fishing smacks at that time in Great Britain.
She was launched under the name GRATITUDE.
09 September 1903 registered at Lowestoft as (LT1005) as a 1st class sailing trawler. Official No 117484.
Tonnage 59 grt/net., dim. 71.0 x 19.3 x 9.3ft.
Ketch rigged.

1910 Owned by Frederick Lang, Lowestoft, smackowner.
28 February 1919 sold to Charles Edwin Gower, hairdresser, but retained her Lowestoft registration.
1925 Sold to Frank Clement Burton, Lowestoft, butcher, he died 22 May 1930.
1930 Sold to Henry Prior & Rodvers Gouldby, Lowestoft, fish salesmen.
21st October 1930 Lowestoft registry closed with the notation “sold foreign” (Sweden)

Used as fishing vessel with mostly a crew of 5-6, fishing in the North Sea.
1930 Was she sold to an owner in Grundsund, on the west coast of Sweden and there used as a sailing “långbackefiske” (not an English translation found). She was at that time one of a large fleet ex British fishing vessels sold to Scandinavian countries.
The GRATITUDE was the fastest sailing fishing vessel out of Grundsund.
Between 1936-38 underwent a renovation which included a major hull repair, most probably also a engine fitted in.
Later used as an auxiliary cargo vessel under the name ÖSTERVAG.
1957 Bought by Sven Lignell and Kjell Wolter for 3.000 SKr.
1958 Restored inside and her hull repaired, but without rigging used as a floating cheap hostel for young boys and girls as sailing school at Bleket, Tjörn. Renamed again in GRATITUDE.
The vessel made weekly trips with young people for learning sailing in jolly boats, which were carried on board the GRATITUDE stacked like dories on a Newfoundland Banker.
Sailing was combined with seamanship and navigation lessons.
1959 Bought by the Stiftelsen Svenska Kryssarklubbens Seglarskola. Göteborg, Sweden.
Her tonnage is now given as, displacement of 103 ton, 60 ton gross and 31 tons net. Dim 29.10 x 5.90 x 2.90m. (draught). Length on deck 23.00m, length bpp. 21.10.
One auxiliary Volvo-Penta diesel engine, 184 hp.
Rigged as a fore-and-aft ketch. Eight sails, sail area 350 square meters.
2008 Still in use by the sailing-school in Göteborg, under the name GRATITUDE OF GOTHENBORG.
