BERMUDA liner 1927

Built as a passenger-cargo vessel under yard No. 490 by Workman Clarck, Co. Ltd., Belfast for the Bermuda & West Indies SS Co. Ltd., Hamilton, Bermuda a subsidiary of the Furness Line.
13 October 1926 keel laid down.
28 July 1927 launched under the name BERMUDA.
Tonnage 19.086 grt. 11.821 net, dim. 525.9 x 74.1 x 39.6ft., draught 26.9ft.
Powered by four Doxford diesel engines, 11.200 hp., quadruple screws, speed 17 knots.
Passenger accommodation for 616 first class and 75 second class passengers.
14 December 1927 trials were made.
December 1927 completed.

She was built with a length that she still could safely berth in Hamilton, Bermuda, and she was the largest vessel ever built by Workman Clarck & Co. Ltd.
Built in the record time of 16 months.
She was built for the New York to Bermuda tourist trade
After delivery sailed to New York.
14 January 1928 she made her maiden voyage in the service between New York and Bermuda.

16 June 1931 she got on fire in the early hours while alongside at Hamilton, in which her passenger accommodation and superstructure were severe damaged. Her engine room was not damaged, and the owners decided to send her to her builders for a major repair.

When the work almost was finished she got on fire at 19 November 1931. This time the fire ravaged the whole ship. She got so much damage that she was declared a constructive total loss.
She was bought by Workman & Clarck who removed the engines and installed this in the INCOMATI of the Andrew Weir & Co., Bank Line passenger vessel.
The dismantled hull was sold to Metal Industries Ltd. Rosyth.
Under tow of the tug SEAMAN from Belfast to Rosyth in Scotland her towline broke and she drifted on the beach of Eddrachilles Bay, Badcall Island, Scotland in a position of 58 15N 05 11W on 30 April 1932, (other source gives 1933) and she became a total loss.
