Oceana entered operation in May 2003, after participating in a renaming ceromony with sister ship Adonia, and presided over by Zara Phillips, the daughter of Princess Anne. At the time she was the largest vessel in the fleet ad the first to accommodate over 2,000 passengers.

Built as a cruise liner under yard No. 6044 by Fincantiere Cantieri Navali Italiani, Monfalcone, Trieste, Italy for the Princess Cruises, Monrovia, Liberia.
29 April 1999 launched under the name OCEAN PRINCESS, three sisters.
Tonnage 77.499 grt, 8.165 dwt. Dim. 261.22 x 32.25 x 8.00m. (draught).
Powered by four 16-cyl. Fincantieri-Grandi Motori diesel engines, 46.080 kW., twin shafts, speed 21 knots.
Accommodation for 1.950 passengers. Crew 850.
29 January 2000 delivered to owners.

She is one of the Sun Princess series, and the fourth and last of this series.
After her position voyage to Fort Lauderdale, USA she was transferred on 15 February to the British registry and flag, with homeport London.
16 February 2000 officially named at Fort Lauderdale, the vessel was named by Ali MacGraw and Ryan O’Neal, the stars of the film “Love Story”.
16 February 2000 she left for Puerto Rico, where on 19 February her first cruise left for her first 7 night Southern Caribbean cruises.
She will be used during the summer in Alaskan waters, based in California or Vancouver, while during the winter season she will be back in the Caribbean.

October 2002 transferred to P&O Cruises, London, and renamed in OCEANA.
17 October 2002 she arrived at the Grand Bahama Shipyard Ltd., Freeport, Bahamas for an extensive interior refurbishment, increasing her passenger accommodation to 2.016 in 1008 cabins.
21 May 2003 at Southampton she was renamed by Princess Anne.
During the summer session she sails from Southampton, U.K to the Mediterranean and Scandinavia,
While in the winter she is transferred to Barbados and making cruise voyages through the Caribbean and Central America.
November 2004 transferred to Carnival PLC ownership.
May 2005 register changed from the U.K. to Bermuda.
