The Japanese 15 yen stamp which was issued in 1970 depicts the cable ship KDD Maru. Under a strong magnifying glass he was able to decipher the ship's name on the bows. She is owned by the Kokusai Cable Ship, of Tokyo, and was built by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd., at Shimonoseki. Dimensions: 374 ft. x 50.7 ft. x 26 ft. Gross tonnage 4,299 tons; net 1,751. Propelling machinery consists of two Kobe Hatsudoki Seizosho oil engines, each of six cylinders, developing 4,400 b.h.p. and giving the vessel a speed of 16 knots.
