Commodore Queen

Post by shipstamps » Mon Aug 25, 2008 12:01 pm

The Commodore Queen (9d. of the Alderney stamps) makes her second appearance on the company's stamps, having been previously depicted on the 1962 issue of the 1 s.3d. stamp for Sark. This vessel came into service in 1960 and carries 401 passengers. In addition to her normal service between Guernsey and Sark she takes day trippers from Guernsey and Jersey to Cherbourg and Granville during the holiday season. Built in 1948 by the Stockton Construction Co., Ltd. for the Admiralty as a LCG (M), she was converted into a luxury day excursion vessel for the Commodore Shipping Co., Ltd.
